India General Election Results 2024: Modi's BJP-Led NDA Alliance Projected to Win
Early Trends Show NDA Leading in Nearly 300 Seats
Early trends in the 2024 Indian general election indicate that Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is set to secure a comfortable victory.
According to exit polls conducted by various news organizations, the NDA is projected to win between 290 and 305 seats in the 543-member Lok Sabha (lower house of parliament).
NDA Set to Form Government for Third Time
If these projections hold true, the NDA will be able to form the government for a third consecutive term, with Modi remaining as Prime Minister.
The BJP alone is expected to win around 220 seats, while its allies in the NDA, such as the Shiv Sena, are projected to bag another 60-70 seats.
Major Setback for BJP
The election results are a significant setback for the BJP, which had won a landslide victory in 2019, securing 303 seats on its own.
The party's performance in 2024 is attributed to a combination of factors, including rising inflation, unemployment, and dissatisfaction among farmers and other key voting blocs.
Modi to Rely on Allies
With the BJP falling short of a majority in the Lok Sabha, Modi will have to rely on the support of its NDA allies to form a stable government.
This will mark the first time since 2014 that the BJP will need to seek support from other parties to form a government at the national level.
